Lava Lamp Nail Art

One of my floor-mates gave me this really adorable idea of doing lava lamp nail art. It's the perfect nail art for my campus, even thought you can't actually have lava lamps in your dorm rooms. Regardless, I started each nail with a sheer colored base polish and then layered on the darker acrylic matching color paint to draw the "lava" in the lava lamp. I added the silver and black lines on the top and bottom of each of my nails to mimic the top and base of a lava lamp. Ending with two layers of top coat I'm really proud of how cute these came out!

Moon Phase Nail Art

Even though this is a very basic nail design, I was crunched for time so I thought I would give it a go. When looking at my nails, going from left to right (from a viewers perspective) you see 12 phases of the moon cycle. I added some sparkle in the background to mimic various stars in the galaxy. Still getting use to having short nails again (sign).

Abstract Smoke (?) Nail Art

Sadly I had to cut my nails down even shorter this week since I broke one of them. Anyways, for this week's design I wanted to use the sharpie and rubbing alcohol method again, but only use black sharpie. At first I tried to be specific with where I put the sharpie and rubbing alcohol mix but that looked too neat, so I just went wild. After I added all of the sharpie mix, I placed an orange dot and a yellow dot in line with each other above my cuticle to make the look cohesive. Then I added on two layers of top coat and called it a day.

Mother's Day Nail Art

Since this coming Sunday is Mother's Day I thought I'd do a manicure inspired by it. I came up with this design based on the children's book "Are You My Mother?" I remembered reading it as a kid so i thought it would be interesting to do a design based on it. On my right thumb I painted the little lost baby bird sitting on top of a dog and on my right thumb I painted the baby bird's mother. The remaining nails on my left hand read "Are You My Mother" and the remaining nails on my right hand read "I Want My Mother," two lines from the book. Overall I'm really happy with how the white lettering cam out on the blue and lavender backgrounds!
